FDA OKs Generic Antidotes For Anthrax

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved a raft of generic versions of the antibiotic Cipro, which gained fame during the Anthrax crisis as providing possible protection against the toxin. Among the 11 companies to win approval for their generics were Mylan Laboratories Inc. (MYL.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , Teva Pharmaceutical Industries (TEVA.O) , Ranbaxy Laboratories (RANB.BO) , Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. (REDY.BO) , Par Pharmaceutical Companies Inc. (PRX.N) , Ivax Corp. (IVX.A) and Eon Labs Inc. (ELAB.O) Cipro is made by Bayer AG (BAYG.DE) of Germany and generates annual sales of about $1 billion.
