Exactech Broadens Spine Portfolio With Launch Of Anchored Anterior Cervical Interbody Device At NASS 2015

GAINESVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Exactech, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXAC), a developer and producer of bone and joint restoration products for hip, knee, shoulder and spine, announced today the launch of the new Acapella® One Cervical Spacer System with integrated anchors during the North American Spine Society Annual Meeting (NASS) in Chicago, IL, this week. Exactech will feature an educational exhibit, booth #1033, during the meeting.

“Exactech is focused on providing a simplified technique for surgeons and the potential for reduced operating time for patients”

With the introduction of Acapella One, a cervical cage with integrated anchors, surgeons can restore disc height while providing integrated fixation to prevent device migration during anterior cervical spinal fusions. The unique design of the cage allows for single-step deployment of both the integrated anchors simultaneously, therefore simplifying the overall procedure.

After completing the first surgery, Anders Cohen, DO said, “I have been very pleased with my initial clinical results using the Acapella One cage. We all agreed that it was important to design an implant that would be simple to implant at any level, and it accomplished that goal today.”

Exactech designed the Acapella system in collaboration with a surgeon team including Dr. Cohen, Steven Bailey, MD and Troy Trimble, DO. Together, they created simplified instrumentation designed to minimize surgical time and instrument processing. The system includes a wide range of sizes to accommodate the patient’s own unique anatomy. The device comes in two footprints, three sagittal profiles and six heights for more than 36 size combinations.

“Exactech is focused on providing a simplified technique for surgeons and the potential for reduced operating time for patients,” said Bruce Thompson, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Spine and Biologics at Exactech. “We are pleased with the early results reported with Acapella One, which we believe will deliver on both of these goals.”

The successful pilot launch of Acapella One marks another milestone in the continued development of innovative products by Exactech Spine. The system rounds out Exactech’s anterior cervical offerings, including the newly released Ambassador™ Cervical plate, which surgeons a wide range of options for performing cervical fusion.
