A study looking at over 47,000 patients with carotid artery disease in New York and California found that stenting is equivalent to open surgery in asymptomatic patients but yields higher rates of in-hospital mortality in symptomatic patients. The findings were published online July 12, 2010, ahead of print in the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
