WAUKESHA, Wis., Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cardiac Science, a leading provider of automated external defibrillators (AED), announced today that Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, Wash., has purchased 85 Powerheart® G5 AEDs.
PNNL, one of 10 national laboratories under the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science, purchased the Powerheart G5s to upgrade the laboratory’s existing AED program. The devices are placed in buildings and in security vehicles with the goal of enabling PNNL staff to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) incident within three minutes.
To help manage its AED program, PNNL purchased MasterTrak, a proprietary web solution developed by Cardiac Science to allow customers to track the components of their AED program, including equipment inventory, locations, pad, and battery expiration dates, as well as employee training and certification records.
“The Powerheart G5 AEDs with the MasterTrak system are an excellent choice for safety programs at large scientific and manufacturing facilities,” said Al Ford, Cardiac Science General Manager and Senior Vice President of Sales/Marketing. “Cardiac Science has been providing PNNL with AEDs since its program began in 2003, and we’re pleased to assist them with this upgrade.”
Cardiac Science introduced the Powerheart G5 earlier this year. It is the first FDA-cleared AED to offer a combination of automatic shock delivery, variable escalating energy, and rapid shock times. The device enables anyone, from a first-time user to a professional rescuer, to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest incident. The Powerheart G5 is designed for both ease of use and ease of maintenance. It conducts daily, weekly, and monthly self tests and has a highly visible indicator to confirm the device’s Rescue Ready® status. It comes with an 8-year warranty and a 4-year performance guarantee on its Intellisense® medical grade non-rechargeable batteries.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, managed by Battelle, addresses many of America’s most pressing issues in energy, the environment and national security through advances in basic and applied science. It employs 4,300 staff in Richland and in satellite offices in Seattle and Tacoma, Wash., in Portland, Ore., and in Washington, D.C.
