BioData Inc. Closes Series B Funding Round With Digital Science

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL and LONDON--(Marketwire - July 17, 2012) -

BioData Ltd., the developer of Labguru, the leading research and lab management system, has closed a Series B round of funding with Digital Science, a division of Macmillan Publishers Ltd.

Digital Science's continued support of BioData follows an exceptional year for BioData in which it re-branded and launched Labguru and a new website, released a popular iPad app, purchased the assets of LabLife, and integrated protocols from Sigma Life Science and Nature Protocols into Labguru. In addition BioData signed a site license agreement with the Technion's Rappaport Institute. The company enjoys a growing user base of over 40,000 researchers.

"BioData and Digital Science exist at a time when scientists are changing long-established habits and increasingly adopting digital productivity tools out of necessity to remain competitive. This is an exciting time for all of the BioData team. We enjoy support from Digital Science along with an ongoing dialog with top researchers worldwide -- ensuring we develop the lab management tools a research group needs in order to do great science," said Jonathan Gross, Founder and Co-CEO of BioData. "We have invested a lot this year in rebranding and revamping the product, building a winning team, and developing tools to better serve our growing user base."

BioData is among Digital Science's portfolio companies, which also includes SureChem, Labtiva, 1DegreeBio, Bioraft and Symplectic. Together they support Digital Science's mandate to provide cutting edge software and technology to make scientific research more efficient.

"BioData has had a tremendous year. Labguru is proving to be a powerful and distinctive product, and customer feedback has been excellent. It really is changing the way that researchers work," said Timo Hannay, Managing Director, Digital Science. "We are delighted to have BioData as part of our portfolio, and look forward to even greater success in the year to come."

In the coming year BioData plans to offer additional features for accessing third-party protocols, products and materials databases so that Labguru users may improve how they plan experiments and manage inventory and orders.
