Bill Would Ban Bayer’s Essure Contraceptive

A Bucks County congressman is preparing a bill that would ban a Bayer HealthCare contraceptive for women, which is the subject of a Food and Drug Administration review and linked to medical problems.

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, a Republican from Levittown, said he would introduce a bipartisan bill to Congress on Nov. 4 to ban Bayer's Essure contraceptive device because of pain and other health care problems that it has caused. The flexible, nickel-titanium coil is inserted into the fallopian tubes as a nonsurgical, permanent birth control method.
