New market platforms to meet formulator needs:
BASF introduces its new market platforms. With its expertise in polymer chemistry and in the development of excipients, as well as its research and development capabilities, BASF continuously creates solutions that contribute to its customers’ success and to more efficient and functional pharmaceuticals. BASF will showcase these solutions through five market platforms that help customers improve the efficacy, bioavailability and compliance of pharmaceutical products. BASF’s high-quality ingredients and solutions can help with challenges related to:
? Instant & Modified Release – A diverse range of functional excipients for use across multiple dosage forms and release profiles.
? Solubilization – Products and technologies that help solve the toughest challenges for poorly soluble drugs.
? Soft Gels – Comprehensive portfolio combining active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and a full range of excipients to tackle challenges with soft gel applications.
? Skin Delivery – Skin delivery formulations and ingredient expertise to help solve topical delivery challenges.
? Biologics Solutions – Ingredients for cell culture manufacturing and protein formulation in biologic applications.
Kollicoat® IR – a powerful binder designed to avoid peroxide formation
BASF introduces a new solution for formulating peroxide sensitive active pharmaceutical ingredients through Kollicoat® IR. Thanks to its unique design, Kollicoat® IR has successfully proven its capability as a tablet binder in various commercial products by combining strong binding performance; comparable to polyvinylpyrrolidon (PVP) and easy processing without any peroxide formation. The combination of these characteristics provides new possibilities in the formulation of peroxide sensitive active ingredients and additionally provides significant design space for lifecycle management of existing drugs. Kollicoat® IR has been widely used and is a well-known instant release coating polymer in the pharmaceutical industry worldwide.
AvaPurTM – a versatile resin for protein purification
BASF introduces an innovative separation tool for protein purification under the trade name AvaPurTM. The versatile resin enables downstream process developers of the biopharmaceutical industry to capture and purify antibodies or their derivatives in one step. AvaPurTM has extremely high reusability as its performance remains unchanged after 300 cleaning-in-place cycles under strong alkaline condition. Additionally, the resin can remove host cell proteins in one step by shifting pH. AvaPurTM is available as RoboColumn that is suitable for high throughput screening purposes in a robotic workstation, as prepacked 1 mL columns and loose material.
BASF markets licenses on co-crystal patents
BASF is now marketing licenses on co-crystal patents of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The new crystal structures significantly improve the physiochemical properties of certain APIs including: higher water solubility, bioavailability, stability and lower hygroscopicity. With this, the co-crystals enable the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals with improved properties. For several years now BASF has been successfully researching and developing solid state structures of chemical active ingredients with new properties; for example for use in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries as well as in crop protection.
Broad portfolio of human nutrition products and solutions for consumer health needs
With its human nutrition solutions, BASF offers a broad portfolio for consumers’ needs, including: vitamins, carotenoids, plant-sterols, emulsifiers and omega-3. BASF will present two health concepts:
? BonBone™ Kids – innovative vitamin D and calcium supply for children: These chewable milk tablets are a practical and effective solution, providing children and adolescents with their recommended daily intake of calcium and vitamin D.
? Vitamin Drink for Bone Health: This drink is enriched with Vitamin D and Vitamin K for building and preserving strong bones and preventing osteoporosis and immobility.
BASF will also showcase its large portfolio of chemical raw materials including: building blocks, reagents, boranes as well as alcoholates, protective-groups, solvents and high-purity iron salts to meet the specific needs of API-production. The Catalysts portfolio includes finechemical catalysts and a full loop of metals-management services.
BASF is also the world leading manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) such as ibuprofen and omega-3 fatty acids.
