Solgar Inc. and Catalent Pharma Solutions’ Subsidiary Cut 196 NJ Jobs

A pharmaceutical manufacturer and a vitamin maker have announced they will each close a North Jersey operation, resulting in up to 196 layoffs in Allendale and Lyndhurst in the latest blow to the manufacturing sector in this part of the state. Solgar Inc., a subsidiary of Ronkonkoma, N.Y.-based manufacturer NBTY, which sells and distributes vitamins and food supplements, announced 107 layoffs in Lyndhurst. The company's announcement, filed with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, said the manufacturing and distribution operations at the site "are being transferred to other locations within the company." Catalent CTS LLC, a subsidiary of Catalent Pharma Solutions, a global drug developer and manufacturer with its headquarters in Somerset, will close its Allendale facility and idle 89 employees on May 20.
