Dr Susie Mitchell, Programme Director for Glasgow City of Science, Ally McInroy, Product & Marketing Manager for Renishaw Diagnostics, and Ali Orr and Kelly Vere, Registrar and Business & Education Engagement Manager at the Science Council are due to speak at the inaugural Scottish Laboratory Show on Thursday 29th October hosted by Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS).
SLS is the UK’s largest independent British-owned supplier of scientific equipment, chemicals and consumables. The growing company will mark its move into BioCity Scotland with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday 28th October followed the next day by the Laboratory Show, organised in association with the Science Council.
The Laboratory Show is expected to attract up to 150 life science and bioscience business owners, University academics, laboratory managers and professional services experts with life science interests.
Dr Mitchell’s talk ‘Leveraging science for long-term growth: from the bench to the BBC’, looks at how the Glasgow City of Science project is tapping into the region’s scientific potential. The Science Council will talk about professional recognition and career development for scientists, and delegates hear how Renishaw Diagnostics turned from university spinout to global player.
Peter Chapman, founder and CEO of Scientific Laboratory Supplies says: “Our speakers at the Laboratory Show represent the depth of scientific knowledge and understanding so evident in Scotland’s standing as a World centre of excellence. Through our company, and its suppliers, we can play our part in supporting world-class science innovation and its commercialisation.”
Belinda Phipps, Chief Executive of the Science Council, says: “We need to build public trust in the quality and cohesion of our scientists, that the science they do contributes to a more sustainable world. It’s great to have SLS and BioCity Scotland showcasing the Science Council’s registers as a means of safeguarding the high professional standards of Scottish scientists.”

About BioCity Scotland
Since its launch in 2012, BioCity Scotland in Newhouse, Lanarkshire has quickly become the focal point for Scotland’s life science industry. BioCity Scotland provides high spec laboratories and office space, as well as access to expertise, finance and a community of like-minded people, making it a hothouse for biotech, pharmaceutical and healthcare businesses to start up and thrive. It caters for companies of all sizes, from university spin outs to later stage companies wanting to expand their operations. It already has more space occupied than any other incubator in Scotland, with lots of room to grow.
BioCity Scotland has a key role to play in creating new companies, job opportunities, health and wealth benefits and creating the perfect environment for inward investment opportunities, integrating them quickly into the Scottish life sciences community. In September 2015, the Scottish Government announced that BioCity Scotland was to become Scotland’s fifth Enterprise Area.
