BIRMINGHAM, Mich., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Michigan headquarters of advertising agency McCann Erickson in Birmingham and the William Beaumont Hospital South Tower addition in Royal Oak have won 2005 Impact Awards from the Detroit chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW-Detroit).
The fourth annual competition was open to new construction and redevelopment projects completed between Jan. 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005. Each project had to involve at least one firm with a CREW member, explains Laura Agabashian, the awards committee chair. Projects earned points for improving the surrounding community, being environmentally friendly and creatively using current materials, space and technology.
The eight-level, 636,000-square-foot (SF) William Beaumont Hospital South Tower addition won in the new construction category. It includes 432 inpatient beds and 16 high-tech operating rooms. Judges commended the project’s attention to patient and family comfort, including a large center atrium that floods internal patient rooms with daylight room. Palmer Commercial Services of Warren submitted the entry.
McCann Erickson Worldwide Michigan headquarters, a renovation of the vacant Jacobson’s department store, won in the redevelopment category. The 100,000-SF, three-level building features abundant glass and skylights and a second-floor outdoor terrace that can support a car. Judges praised its creative transformation of four buildings into one open, modern structure and the positive economic impact from McCann’s 300-plus employees. Turner Construction Co. of Detroit submitted the entry.
The winners will receive their awards at a Sept. 22 luncheon at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Tickets are $60; see www.crewdetroit.org or contact Donna Hanson at 248.375.7239.
