LITTLETON, Colo., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Littleton Adventist Hospital recently announced it has achieved designation as a Level II Trauma Center by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
As a Level II Trauma Center, Littleton Adventist Hospital has trauma-trained surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedists and anesthesiologists, in addition to emergency physicians, all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The hospital also provides ongoing trauma staff training and support, and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment needed to treat trauma patients.
"Achieving this designation means that we are able to deliver optimal care to nearly all trauma patients right here in south Denver -- when precious minutes matter most," said the hospital's chief executive officer, David Crane.
The transition from Level III to the upgraded Level II status transpired over several years. In order to achieve this designation, the hospital expanded emergency and operating room capabilities, added a cardiac catheterization lab and angiography suite, and recruited specialty-trained physicians.
"A traumatic situation involving the life of an individual requires rapid deployment of a sophisticated team of health care workers representing almost every specialty seven days a week, 24 hours a day, with the necessary equipment at their fingertips," Crane said. "Littleton Adventist Hospital has just that depth of resources."
In coming weeks, Littleton Hospital will unveil its newest addition to high acuity trauma care -- the StatScan Critical Imaging System. One of only three in the United States, Littleton Hospital's StatScan machine is a high-speed, low-dose X-ray that can capture images of the entire body in just 13 seconds.
Littleton Adventist Hospital is part of Centura Health, a faith-based hospital system sponsored by Adventist Health System and Catholic Health Initiatives. Known for its birthing services, surgical services and Level II trauma and emergency care, Littleton Adventist Hospital has been south Denver's premier full service medical facility since 1989.
