HealthPartners Expands Health Plan Coverage To Western Wisconsin

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthPartners announced today that it is now offering medical and dental plans in 17 counties of western Wisconsin -- including the markets of Eau Claire, Hudson, La Crosse and Superior. HealthPartners is the first major health plan to enter Wisconsin in nearly a decade.

“We believe employers and employees in Wisconsin will benefit from HealthPartners’ long tradition of health improvement and disease management programs because they are proven ways to reduce medical expenses by improving health,” said Mary Brainerd, HealthPartners president and CEO.

New Richmond-based St. Croix Press is the first fully-insured company in Wisconsin to offer HealthPartners coverage to its employees. “Rising health care costs are a major concern and with HealthPartners we can continue to offer excellent health coverage while keeping our costs relatively flat,” said Mike Monette, general manager, St. Croix Press.

HealthPartners currently serves more than 18,000 medical and more than 7,000 dental members who reside in Wisconsin and receive HealthPartners coverage through their Minnesota employers. The market expansion now allows Wisconsin employers to offer HealthPartners plans. HealthPartners medical and dental plans are available in the Wisconsin counties of Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Buffalo, Burnett, Chippewa, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Sawyer, St. Croix, Trempealeau and Washburn. In addition to health insurance, HealthPartners also provides health care services in western Wisconsin through partnerships with Amery Medical Center, Osceola Medical Center and Hudson Hospital.

Awards and honors

In a report on health care quality sponsored by the National Business Coalition on Health, HealthPartners is the highest ranked Minnesota health plan in areas including prevention and chronic disease management. Last December, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services presented an Innovation in Prevention Award to HealthPartners’ 10,000 Steps(R) program.
