PITTSBURGH, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthAmerica and HealthAssurance have been selected by the Pittsburgh Business Group on Health (PBGH) as the preferred regional health plan administrator for its 61 member companies that provide health care benefits to over 1 million employees, retirees and dependents. The relationship, which is effective immediately, offers PBGH member companies self-insured arrangements either as an option or as a full replacement, along with individual company flexibility in benefit plan design, a comprehensive provider network across Pennsylvania, and fewer administrative burdens.
HealthAmerica and HealthAssurance were chosen, after an extensive evaluation process, based on our commitment to meet key specifications including aggressive pricing, defined core and value-added services, dedicated account management, responsive customer service, guaranteed performance standards, and comprehensive, company-specific reporting capabilities.
HealthAmerica and HealthAssurance are health benefits plans that cover over 700,000 members in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The PBGH represents a unified effort on the part of large, mid-size and small Pittsburgh employers to bring cost-effective, high quality health care benefit options to their member companies.
“HealthAmerica is pleased to be a part of the PBGH Health Care Program and offer another choice in health plan administration,” said Robert Dawson, president and chief executive officer of HealthAmerica and HealthAssurance. “We are excited to work with the PBGH to seek ways to add greater value to the important objective of providing quality, cost-effective health benefits.”
“We are enthused about this new relationship because we know HealthAmerica has a history of offering customers a broad portfolio of products with comprehensive benefits, broad access to quality medical providers and the ability to control medical cost trends while improving quality,” said Christine Whipple, executive director of PBGH.
HealthAmerica and HealthAssurance will offer several self-funded benefit plan options to PBGH members including PPO, POS and HMO plans, along with competitive administrative fees and provider discounts. The administrative fees will be reduced as the membership in the program increases, offering employers a more competitive price than they can achieve on their own.
PBGH members also are assured of consistency and quality across medical benefits offered, as well as effective and innovative chronic disease management programs that improve quality of life for those with long-term health problems while reducing the need for costly catastrophic care.
