FABUPHARM Products, Namibia’s leading Otjiwarongo-based pharmaceutical manufacturer, allegedly mixes and sells expired products. According to a source close to the company, products past their shelf-dates are tampered with, repackaged and passed on as new on its production chain, a practice that has been happening for the past few years. Sources also said the company, which is awarded regular government tenders valued at more than N$2 million, takes extreme measures to hide the evidence when inspectors from the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) visit for inspection only to return the expired goods back on the shelves once inspectors are gone.
