FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., May 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DaimlerChrysler Insurance Company (DCIC), a business unit of DaimlerChrysler Financial Services, co-sponsored this year’s Mixed Insurance Invitational benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The 12th annual invitational was held at the Dearborn Country Club in Dearborn, Mich. DCIC co-sponsored this year’s event by donating $12,000 to cancer research.
The Mixed Insurance Committee is the first and only committee in Michigan to endow a facility at the hospital and is comprised of employees working in Michigan’s insurance industry.
“DaimlerChrysler Insurance Company, the Detroit Metro Area Insurance Community and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital have demonstrated our continued commitment to children and their families all over the United States since the program’s inception,” said Jim Haan, Vice President - DaimlerChrysler Insurance Company. “As a twelve-year sponsor of this event, we wish St. Jude continued success.”
Over the next five years the committee has pledged $500,000 to maintain the family area in the Grizzlies House, a new on-campus short term stay facility. Once the endowment is fulfilled, a plaque will be placed in the committee’s honor in the family room.
“The research at St. Jude is truly amazing,” said Beth Campbell, Senior Event Marketing Representative for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “We just announced that the cure rate for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, the most common form of cancer for kids, is at 90 percent. When the hospital opened in 1962 the cure rate for this type of cancer was four percent.”
Additional highlights of event include a live and silent auction that raised more than $50,000 benefiting St. Jude.
