October 11, 2013 -- The California State Senate has passed SR 19, a resolution declaring Nov. 3-9 California Radiologic Technology Week.
Sponsored by Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco/San Mateo), the act recognizes the state’s medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals and the California Society of Radiologic Technologists’ commitment to patient care and radiologic safety.
“Radiologic technologists are responsible for producing quality diagnostic medical images and utilizing cutting edge technologies in the fight against cancer and other diseases. These unsung heroes are an integral part of our health care system, and this recognition is well deserved for their dedicated efforts,” said Sen. Yee.
California Radiologic Technology Week coincides with National Radiologic Technology Week® Nov. 3-9. NRTW commemorates the anniversary of the x-ray’s discovery by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on Nov. 8, 1895, and recognizes the vital work of the nation’s medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals.
In addition to California Radiologic Technology Week and NRTW, the CSRT is hosting its 2013 annual conference on Nov. 9 at the South San Francisco Convention Center.
According to CSRT President Lorenza Clausen, R.T.(R)(CT)(MR), CRT, the resolution is an opportunity to promote California’s 20,000 registered radiologic technologists and educate Californians about the vital role technologists play on the health care team. “We’d like to thank Senator Yee for recognizing California’s radiologic technologists and their tireless efforts to provide patients with outstanding care. We’re excited to promote the radiologic technology profession during California Radiologic Technology Week and educate the public about medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures.”
The CSRT will host a special ceremony with Sen. Yee at its annual meeting to recognize California Radiologic Technology Week and the state’s radiologic technologists.
