BOC Sciences Release: European “Sharc25" Project Aims To Improve The Efficiency Of Thin Film Solar Cells By 25 Percent

BOC Sciences-A new project aiming to improve the efficiency of thin film solar cells is launched with decisive goal. About EUR 6 million will be invested into this project for the R&D of a new generation thin film solar cells, which is setting to achieve an improvement of 25% in efficiency. The new generation thin film solar cells are made by co-evaporation of copper indium gallium selenide. This new material will increase the best performance of efficiency up by 3 percent. The project will be carried out soon and then 8 countries will join the line to promote the development of the thin film solar cell transform in Europe. As planed, “Sharc25” will run for about 3.5 years from May, 2015. And during the period, the manufactures in Europe solar industry will grasp the new chance by paying close attention to the project and keeping pace with it. To reach the aim of up to 25 percent improvement in efficiency, the new generation thin film solar cell will present huge changes in the design and materials. Coating material and magnetron sputtering targets will be the important elements to be improved.

Besides, the involved parties of the project are finding ways to achieve optimization in light management. The intense schedule of “Sharc25” project requires highly on the scientists’ innovation ability and much further, their ability of getting research results into practical application. If the projects runs well and get a significant result in 3.5 years, the producing cost of the solar module will be cut down considerably and the sacrifice for using the solar energy will be much cheaper. And most importantly, the fruits of the project will bring revolution to the worldwide solar industry. About Author
