May 15, 2016 – Ashfield are thrilled to announce that their Business Intelligence Team walked away with the Analyst Team of the Year Award at the 2017 BOBI Awards, which took place in London on Monday 8 May.
The BOBI Awards
The Analyst Team of the Year Award (sponsored by 14 Four Analytics) recognises experts in data reporting and celebrates teams that can turn data into attractive and engaging stories. The competition was an opportunity to showcase how effectively data can be transformed into insights and conclusions, using analytical software tool and a team with the right expertise. In this category they were up against competition from Blue Latitude Health, CE Consultancy, Cogora, MSD, QuintilesIMS, Sanofi and Teva.
The BOBI Awards were launched a decade ago by the BHBIA (British Healthcare Business Intelligence Association) and are the only healthcare-specific business intelligence awards in the UK. This is the first time there has been an award for Analyst Team of the Year, and the team decided to enter following the successful rollout of their new analytical software tool, Tableau.

About the Team
Ashfield’s Business Intelligence team based in the UK supports their EUCAN Commercial and Clinical businesses by providing analytical and reporting services for internal and external clients. It also plays an important role in supporting Ashfield’s Business Development team by performing complex analysis across different therapy areas. This analysis is transformed into valuable insight which allows them to design and implement high quality solutions to help their clients get the best impact from their investment in our services.
The Business Intelligence team’s work includes developing territory designs and identifying target customers using sales, healthcare and demographic data. The value the team brings to the business lies in its ability to effectively combine multiple complex data sources and offer clear insight based on the analysis of this information
Adding value
One example would be the analysis of CCGs in the UK and the location of Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) specialising in a particular therapy area. This can then be used to design the optimal territory structure and strategy for a sales team to be most effective.
Further to this, their team has designed an ‘NHS Prescription and QOF Data’ tool to allow fast analysis of prescription trends by field staff, leading to more effective and tailored conversations with HCPs and ultimately a better return on investment for their clients.
Another important function provided by the Ashfield Business Intelligence Team is to support the Operations Department in providing clear and comprehensive reports and dashboards to their clients and internal Management Team. This allows them to effectively manage the sales teams and feedback on how they are performing. Using these reports, Ashfield is able to deliver a return on investment analysis to show the impact of their interventions.
Mark Neate, Divisional Business Intelligence Manager EUCAN commented:
“This competition was about telling a story and highlighting key information in a data set, ensuring that the end user is able to quickly grasp the key points and is then encouraged to dig deeper to gain additional insight.
The assessment involved providing all of the competing teams with the same data set for a fictional Pharma company and were instructed to create a dashboard for the team promoting the client’s key product. The dashboard had to allow viewers to see areas of opportunity and also highlight those individuals having the most success.
I was absolutely delighted that we won the award and in such a competitive environment. This award reflects the high calibre of work that the Ashfield Business Intelligence team deliver to our clients and internal colleagues on a daily basis, often with tight deadlines.’’
