ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Alexian Brothers Medical Center, part of the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network, has been ranked among the country’s top hospitals in two specialties by U.S. News & World Report. The magazine’s annual “America’s Best Hospitals” list for 2004, published in the July 12 issue, ranks the nation’s top 50 hospitals in 17 specialties. Alexian Brothers Medical Center was recognized for excellence in both its geriatrics and respiratory disorders programs.
“This is very exciting news to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report, as one of the top hospitals in the United States for geriatrics,” says Roger Weise, M.D., Medical Director of the Alexian Older Adult Institute. “Alexian has a long history of providing the highest quality of healthcare and confirmation of our efforts on such a national level is a compliment to our physicians and staff.”
The Alexian Older Adult Institute is one of eight Alexian Centers of Excellence. The others include Behavioral Health, Cardiovascular Services, Neurosciences, Oncology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics and Rehabilitation Medicine. Each Alexian Center of Excellence is headed by highly skilled teams of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare experts who not only will treat patients, but also lead research initiatives and clinical trials.
“We strongly believe in the Mission and Values of the Alexian Brothers,” stated Rong S. Tu, M.D., Medical Director of pulmonary medicine at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. “We celebrate the recognition of our respiratory disorders program with those most responsible for its success, our physicians, but especially our pulmonologists and nursing staff. Under our physician leadership and with support from hospital administration, we provide state-of- the-art equipment to meet the needs of our patient population. We strive for the most proficient, highest quality care.”
U.S. News & World Report reviewed more than 6,000 hospitals as part of this year’s survey. According to the publication the standards for ranking are rigorous. Of all the hospitals in the nation, only 177 were of high enough quality to be ranked in even a single specialty this year.
The 15th annual “America’s Best Hospitals” list is a resource for consumers who are seeking maximum care in the diagnosis, treatment and management of a medical problem. According to the publication, “Ranked hospitals tend to adhere more closely to advanced treatment guidelines, incorporate new findings into patient care, and conduct research that gives patients more options.”
In addition to Alexian Brothers Medical Center, the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network is comprised of St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital in Hoffman Estates, and the new Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital in Elk Grove Village. Together these hospitals are known for Advanced Medicine and providing unsurpassed treatment and care to the more than one million residents of Chicago’s northwest suburbs.
