AHMC Inc. To Acquire Four East L.A. Hospitals

ALHAMBRA, Calif., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- AHMC Inc. today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire four hospitals in east Los Angeles County from Tenet Healthcare, including Garfield Medical Center and Monterey Park Hospital in Monterey Park; Greater El Monte Community Hospital in South El Monte, and Whittier Hospital Medical Center in Whittier.

AHMC Inc. and its affiliated companies have operated Alhambra Hospital, located in Los Angeles County, since 1998 and Doctors’ Hospital Medical Center of Montclair, located in San Bernardino County, since 2001. AHMC Inc. is owned by Dr. Jonathan Wu, who serves as chairman of the board of the corporation.

 AHMC Inc. is committed to: * Continue to operate these facilities as acute care hospital, including the 24 hour emergency rooms; * Offer employment to substantially all employees in good standing at the four hospitals and will honor any labor agreements; * Continue the hospitals’ existing charity care policies and honor the promises of Tenet’s Compact with the Uninsured; * Maintain continuity of management by retaining the existing management teams at each hospital; * Honor the service of the existing hospital governing board members and continue their service after the transaction is completed. 

AHMC Inc. is a California corporation, the sole general partner of Alhambra Hospital Medical Center L.P. Since 1998, AHMC Inc. has operated Alhambra Hospital, a 144-bed general acute care hospital that offers one of the top three cryosurgical centers in the United States for the treatment of liver cancer. Alhambra Hospital is also affiliated with Doctors’ Hospital Medical Center of Montclair, a 108-bed general acute hospital that offers a 24-hour emergency department and a full range of services to the community.

About Garfield Medical Center

Garfield Medical Center, a 210-bed hospital located in Monterey Park, has been part of Tenet since 1969 and is a major tertiary hospital for the Asian community. It offers a full complement of acute care services including open heart surgery, neurosurgery and a Level II neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital also has a 28-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit.

About Greater El Monte Community Hospital

Greater El Monte Community Hospital, a 117-bed hospital located in South El Monte, has been part of Tenet since 1997. The hospital offers general acute services with a focus on obstetrical and pediatric services.

About Monterey Park Hospital

Monterey Park Hospital, a 101-bed hospital located in Monterey Park, has been part of Tenet since 1997. It offers general acute services including a strong obstetrical program with over 2,500 births annually.

About Whittier Hospital Medical Center

Whittier Hospital Medical Center, a 181-bed hospital located in Whittier, has been part of Tenet since 1997. It provides general acute services including obstetrics and an established bariatric surgery program. It also includes the Children’s Center for Specialized Care, one of the only pediatric subacute facilities in the state.
