San Francisco, February 27 (By Suvarna Bhatt, BioSpace) – Viennese biotech company, Austrianova, and its partner at the Research Institute for Virology and Biomedicine, University of Veterinary Medicine, have shown a gene from a bacteriophage can be used for the treatment of cancer. The bacteriophage protein, called holin, has been discovered to destroy human breast cancer cells for the first time. The study has been published in "The Journal of Gene Medicine," 2006, Vol. 8.
