abjentrepreneur -- America’s back pain has been a boost for Austin’s health care sector in the last five years. There are about 14 spinal care-related startups in the Austin area, according to industry watcher Tiger Buford, vice president of global research and development for Tennessee-based Active Implants Corp. Those companies, most of which are less than 6 years old, are focused on aspects of spinal health such as devices for orthopedic surgery and advanced biologics for minimally invasive procedures. They are in various stages of testing, developing and marketing their products.
