BioMarin Pharmaceutical in San Rafael has denied a request for immediate access to an experimental drug treatment for a 45-year-old Texas woman with advanced ovarian cancer. But Rep. Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael, who has gotten involved in the case due to a flood of calls to his office, said Friday that BioMarin has told him it is exploring the possibility of including the woman, Andrea Sloan, in a new clinical trial with the drug: poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitor BMN 673. "We're talking about a matter weeks," Huffman said. "Possibly 40 days. I'm looking into doing better than that."
