Bio-Images Research Ltd. Appoints Director of Regulatory Affairs in Line With Expansion

14 December 2011 -- Fast-growing Scottish company Bio-Images Research, an established leader in the clinical study of pharmaceuticals, has strengthened its board-level team with the appointment of a new Director of Regulatory Affairs.

Dr Sarah Connolly, who has been with the Glasgow-based company for the past four years, will take responsibility for Good Manufacturing Practice and regulatory and ethics approvals.

The appointment, which comes shortly after Bio-Images added two new full-time posts to its clinical research team, is designed to maintain the highest level of ethical and regulatory standards as the company's pipeline of clinical studies steadily increases.

Bio-Images has completed three clinical studies this year and is now in the forefront of a small field of very specialised providers of gamma scintigraphy imaging services, which allow major multi-national pharma companies to outsource some of their clinical research.

The company also undertakes regulatory and ethical submissions, effectively allowing Big Pharma to outsource this time-consuming process as well.

Dr. Connolly, who has been a clinical research pharmacist with Bio-Images for four years, joined the company after completing her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Strathclyde in 2007.

Her appointment enhances Bio-Images' commitment to GMP, the practices and systems required to be adapted in pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality control and quality systems. Many countries have created GMP guidelines in line with their own legislation.

Professor Howard Stevens, founder of Bio-Images, said: "Dr Connolly has demonstrated a whole-hearted commitment to best practice in clinical study work and a deep understanding of the fundamentals of Good Manufacturing Practice. Her expertise will be invaluable as Bio-Images gears up for the next stages of international expansion."

Dr Connolly said: "I am delighted to have been invited to join the board of such a forward-thinking and innovative company. Bio-Images has made huge progress already in a highly competitive field and has an exciting future as an independent and rapidly-expanding Scottish life sciences company."
