Synergistic Designs Launches BioSpace World Wide Web Site To Serve The Global Biotechnology Industry

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Synergistic Designs Inc., a San Francisco-based promotional art and interactive media production company, launched BioSpace(TM) -- a World Wide Web site produced specifically to serve the global biotechnology industry at the Internet World Trade Conference in San Jose. The East Coast launch of BioSpace and promotional art unveiling entitled "Genetown" took place March 15 to a crowd of over 400 biotech executives following the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council Annual Meeting.

"BioSpace is designed to be a place where the global biotech community can meet in Cyberspace," said Jennifer C. King, President and Founder of Synergistic Designs. "The overreaching goal of BioSpace is to improve the speed and quality of decision-making in the biotechnology industry by providing timely access to the information and people that decision-makers in this field need. BioSpace has been created from the ground up with decision-makers' needs in mind."

BioSpace incorporates many facets of an online, ongoing trade conference and an electronic publication focused on the biotechnology industry. There are currently 200 biotech companies, suppliers, service providers, pharmaceutical companies, universities and organizations "exhibiting" in BioSpace. "One of the beauties of the Internet and World Wide Web is that it removes the barriers of time and space," said Timothy C. Fredel, CEO of Synergistic Designs. "Unlike a typical trade conference which lasts for only a few days at a specific location, BioSpace is available to anyone, anywhere from nearly any computer."

BioSpace also represents a new trend on the Internet. "BioSpace is an example of a 'touchstone' World Wide Web site," said John Katsaros, President of Collaborative Marketing, Inc. and a well-known Internet consultant. "'Touchstone' sites are concentrations of information pertaining to a specific topic of interest. Less than two years ago there were only 100 Web sites, and users could easily identify a site of interest. As we move toward 100,000 World Wide Web sites, 'touchstone' sites such as BioSpace will be increasingly important for reaching a specific community of shared interests in a central location on the Internet."

Pricing and Availability

Anyone with a connection to the Internet and the World Wide Web can access BioSpace free of charge at http://www.biospace.com. Biotech companies, academic and research institutions can have a presence on the Internet at no charge through BioSpace if they contact Synergistic Designs by April 30. Contract Research Organizations (CROs), pharmaceutical companies, service providers and suppliers presently pay a $2,400-$9,600 annual fee to have a presence in BioSpace. Companies interested in enhancing or finding a central home for their existing presence on the Internet should contact Synergistic Designs for pricing information.
