CARLSBAD, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Alphatec Spine, Inc., (“Alphatec”) today announced the appointment of four surgeons to its Scientific Advisory Board. The appointments reinforce Alphatec’s commitment to becoming a leader in spinal technology, through collaboration with leading surgeon partners.
Ronald Hiscock, President and Chief Executive Officer said, “I am honored that spine surgeons with demonstrated expertise in spine fusion and other spine surgical treatments have agreed to serve on our Scientific Advisory Board. These surgeons will advise us concerning our current products, our product pipeline, long-term scientific planning, research and development and industry trends. They will also evaluate our research programs, recommend personnel to us and advise us on technological matters.”
Alphatec’s Scientific Advisory Board is chaired by Dr. Stephen Hochschuler, one of America’s leading spine experts. Dr. Hochschuler joined the Advisory Board in September 2005 and his background can be found in our press release dated September 2005.
The new members to Alphatec’s Scientific Advisory Board of Physicians are as follows:
Dr. Frank Eismont, who has been employed by the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami since 1980. He is currently a Professor and Co-Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation and is Program Director for the orthopedic residency training program and the spine surgery fellowship training program. Dr. Eismont graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in New York, completed his internship and orthopedic residency and one spine surgery fellowship at Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He completed a second spine surgery fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Steven Garfin, who is a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California, San Diego. He has been on the faculty at UCSD since 1981. Dr. Garfin graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He completed his internship and orthopedic residency at UCSD, and a spine surgery fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Frank Phillips, who is a spine surgeon at Midwest Orthopedics and is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where he co-directs the spine fellowship program. Dr. Phillips has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications on his spine research and received research awards from both the North American Spine Society (“NASS”) and the Cervical Spine Research Society. He has served on various committees of NASS. Dr. Phillips has lectured widely both in the U.S. and internationally on various spinal topics. Dr. Phillips graduated from the University of Witwaterand Medical School, which is located in South Africa and then completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
Dr. James J. Yue, who is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the Yale University School of Medicine, Co-Director of the Yale Spine Center, and Director of the Combined Yale Spine Fellowship. After completing his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland, he completed a trauma and spine fellowship at the University of Maryland/RA Cowley Shock Trauma Hospital and an additional spinal fellowship at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and London, England.
