COLORADO SPRINGS, CO--(Marketwire - February 22, 2011) - ADInstruments Inc. has released LabTutor Medical Laboratories, a revolutionary multimedia software product that embeds real patient videos and data with related physiology experiments, making it ideal for health, nursing and medical courses. The interactive software gives students a powerful learning advantage by bridging the gap between physiological fundamentals and clinical practice.
The Medical Laboratories are a new component of LabTutor 4 Suite, that already includes LabTutor guided lab exercises, LabAuthor authoring tools for the creation of new multimedia Medical Laboratories and LabTutor Online (optional extra) for convenient access to files and reports outside the lab.
The Medical Laboratories consist of two parts. The first part allows students to investigate their own physiology using LabTutor with ADInstruments PowerLab data acquisition systems to measure parameters such as BP, ECG and respiratory rate. The second part of the Medical Laboratory enables students to ‘meet’ real patients with conditions such as essential hypertension, aortic stenosis and COPD through a series of high quality video interviews. Students then view the patient’s test results, and compare and contrast their own physiology to that of the patient. After answering relevant questions and submitting a report, students are able to view a video of the consulting physician explaining the diagnosis and treatments.
Medical Laboratories are entirely contained within the LabTutor interface, so there is no need for instructions, handouts or paper reports. The first part of the Medical Laboratory is completed in the lab. The second part of the Medical Laboratory can be set as homework via an Internet connection using LabTutor Online.
A range of Medical Laboratories are available which address the physiology, pathology and treatment of frequently encountered clinical conditions. The LabTutor 4 Teaching Suite with Medical Laboratories is supplied with all ADInstruments Teaching Systems.
