Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal by Mark Reilly, Managing Editor Lou Ferrigno, the actor who played the Hulk on the 1970s TV show “The Incredible Hulk,” has begun using an implantable hearing aid from Minnesota’s Envoy Medical Corp.
Ferrigno, who’s had hearing problems since he was young, said last weekend on the finale of Celebrity Apprentice (he was fired in April) that he received the Esteem medical implant, made by White Bear Lake-based Envoy.
The device, planted behind the ear, sends impulses that activate the ear drum. This technique makes it less likely the aid will over-amplify background noise.
It’s the latest bit of uncommon marketing success for Envoy, which got a ton of exposure last year when a video of a 29-year-old woman hearing her own voice for the first time went viral. It’s up to 13 million views on YouTube.
