NEW YORK, /PRNewswire/ -- William Lautman, Managing Partner of Nexus Health Capital, a New York and Dallas-based Healthcare Investment Bank, today announced a one million dollar planned gift in addition to five hundred thousand dollars donated to Smile Train in order to bring forever smiles to children with clefts in Argentina and around the world. Smile Train is an international children’s charity that empowers local medical professionals with training, funding, and resources to provide free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children globally. Smile Train advances a sustainable solution and scalable global health model for cleft treatment, drastically improving children’s lives, including their ability to eat, breathe, speak, and ultimately thrive. Every year, one in 700 babies are born with a cleft lip and/or palate globally. Clefts are the leading birth difference in many developing countries, and it is estimated that more than 200,000 new babies with clefts are born every year globally. The announcement of these gifts follows a multi-year program driven by Mr. Lautman since 2016 to grow Smile Train’s programs in Argentina. Smile Train’s support of local partnerships in Argentina has enabled the local medical professionals to increase capacity from approximately 300 cleft surgeries completed in 2016 to more than 800 cleft surgeries planned for completion this year. Announcing the gifts, William Lautman said, “I am honored to support Smile Train and the tireless hours this organization dedicates to helping children with clefts. I look forward to continuing my relationship with Smile Train and making a difference together.” “Smile Train is extremely grateful for Mr. Lautman’s continued generosity and support to help children with clefts, specifically in Argentina,” said Susannah Schaefer, President and CEO of Smile Train.
