Utah Biotech Company Helps Develop Pediatric Heart Pump

A Salt Lake City biotechnology company is part of a National Institutes of Health-funded consortium developing a pediatric heart pump - the latest in its string of next-generation heart devices. WorldHeart, which implanted its Levacor VAD [ventricular assist device] in two Greek patients last year and is close to testing it in clinical trials at Intermountain Medical Center and nine other sites in the U.S., is “miniaturizing” that technology for use in children age 2 and younger.
