A new program at the University of Pittsburgh will team up engineers and clinicians to develop medical devices.
The five-year, $5 million program, currently under development, will fund a minimum of five projects annually, with the first cash awarded in July, said Marc Malandro, associate vice chancellor for technology management and commercialization. Funding per project will vary, he said.
The aim of the program is to spur development of medical device spinouts and technology leased by existing companies. In order for researchers to receive the money, personnel at Pitt’s health sciences and engineering schools must work together.
