Dr. Daniel A. Reed will be the Monday keynote speaker on May 7 at 1:15 p.m. PDT during the Internet2 Global Summit in San Diego, CA.
Dr. Reed will discuss “The Convergence of Academic and Research Collaboration.” His presentation will explore the intersections of balancing the needs of supporting the academic enterprise and the research community from a technology, application, and cyberinfrastructure perspective.
“We’re seeing rapid changes in technological advancements that require creative ways for us as technologists to address the complex technical environment necessary to support the academy and researchers in areas such as cyberinfrastructure, cloud services, security, privacy, and trust and identity,” said Howard Pfeffer, president and CEO of Internet2. “To achieve this, we must engage in mutual-interest collaboration across a diverse set of communities. Dr. Reed’s illustrious career spans industry, scientific research, and higher education and he brings a keen perspective on how as a community of researchers, scientists, and technologists we can work together to solve common technology challenges for the benefit of all.”
Dr. Reed recently completed his term of service as vice president for research and economic development at the University of Iowa. He is a former corporate vice president and technology policy leader at Microsoft, founding director of the Renaissance Computing Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and department head and director of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois.
The 2018 Internet2 Global Summit meeting will convene research and education technology leaders from May 6-9 at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina hotel, and is co-hosted by CENIC, the University of California San Diego, and San Diego State University.
