Two Large Health Systems Renew Their Commitment To VHA; Decisions Based On Supply Savings And VHA Clinical Improvement Programs

IRVING, Texas, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Two large health care systems have renewed their commitments to VHA Inc., a national health care alliance. The organizations are:

-- Covenant Health, based in Knoxville, Tenn. -- Partners HealthCare System, based in Boston

These health systems represent 15 acute care hospitals and dozens of non- acute care facilities. Combined, they spend nearly $1 billion annually on medical supplies and pharmaceuticals. These organizations already use VHA agreements to purchase products worth about $360 million annually.

Each of the organizations cited supply savings as a key reason for remaining with VHA, stating that Novation, VHA’s supply services company, offers them customized opportunities to improve their supply chain activities. Leaders at these organizations also validated the importance and relevance of VHA programs that enhance their efforts to improve clinical care.

“VHA serves hundreds of large integrated delivery systems across the United States, and our aim is to provide more customized services to meet each of their needs. Our success in this endeavor is leading many of these larger organizations to renew their linkages with VHA,” said Scott Downing, senior vice president of supply chain management services at VHA. “Helping health care organizations save money in the supply arena is especially crucial, because supply savings directly impact an organization’s bottom line. VHA has a proven track record for delivering savings through its supply services initiatives.”
