CARLSBAD, Calif., May 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, has expanded its line of endotoxin-free plasmid DNA isolation products with the launch of the PureLink Expi Endotoxin-Free Maxi Plasmid Purification Kit. With a simple and fast protocol for isolation, the kit allows researchers to yield up to 1.5 mg of endotoxin-free, advanced transfection-quality plasmid DNA in less than 90 minutes.
The kit uses novel, proprietary anion-exchange membrane based columns, in combination with a vacuum-assisted workflow, to isolate advanced transfection-grade plasmid DNA in about half the time of current standard protocols. Researchers can now achieve high yields of endotoxin-free DNA in significantly less time without compromising quality or purity.
“Faster time to protein expression means faster results,” said Helge Bastian, vice president and general manager of synthetic biology and sample preparation at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “Our customers want plasmid preparation to be simple, prompt, reliable and economical. Our streamlined purification process provides the highest quality plasmid DNA in a short period of time, passing back valuable time to our customers and allowing them to focus on less routine and higher value activities in their daily work.”
Unlike other more time-intensive anion-exchange resin-based columns that rely on gravity flow to purify the DNA, the PureLink Expi Endotoxin-Free Maxi Purification Kit utilizes membrane-based columns enabling rapid vacuum or centrifugation based plasmid DNA purification. The kit completes Thermo Fisher’s portfolio of endotoxin-free plasmid DNA isolation kits, including Mega scale for isolation of up to 5 mg of ultraclean DNA, and Giga scale enabling up to 15 mg yields.
“Endotoxin-free plasmid preparation has become a frequent, necessary and routine task in many research laboratories and manufacturing workflows around the world,” said Bastian. “In response to customers’ demand for improved convenience and purification times, our research team in Thermo Fisher’s Center of Excellence for Nucleic Acid Purification has worked relentlessly to address this request. Our endotoxin-free Maxi Kits, the latest addition to our nucleic acid purification portfolio, underline Thermo Fisher’s commitment to further simplify pre-analytical workflows with new innovations.”
Advanced transfection grade plasmid purification is ideal for sensitive applications such as primary and stem cell transfection, gene therapy and vaccine research, microinjection and in vivo studies. The PureLink Expi Endotoxin-Free Maxi Plasmid Purification Kit meets stringent industry standards for endotoxin-free plasmid DNA, with less than 0.1 EU/µg, and provides high-purity DNA with ultra-low levels of protein, RNA and genomic DNA contamination, along with the productivity gains of vacuum assisted filtration.
Plasmid purification using the PureLink Expi Maxi Kits is fully compatible with and complements the workflows of the Gibco ExipCHO and Expi293 Expression Systems.
