MAHWAH, N.J., Jan. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Stryker Orthopaedics today announced its first activation of 2015 as the “Official Joint Replacement Products of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour.” With a debut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Stryker will continue its commitment to educating golf fans about joint health and mobility by enhancing the fan experience at select tournaments with its premiere on-site activation, the Stryker Mobility Zone.
The Stryker Mobility Zone, a destination designed to educate golf fans about the importance of joint health, will make scheduled appearances at select PGA TOUR and Champions Tour stops in 2015. Later this week, it will make its first appearance at the highly anticipated Waste Management Phoenix Open, in Scottsdale, AZ.
This year, the Stryker Mobility Zone will welcome fans with the following experiences:
- Mako Stryker’s robotic-arm-assisted technology and how it’s changing the way joint replacement is performed
- Interactive photo booth for fans to share highlights of their tournament experience
- Pedometer giveaway for fans to track their steps and mobility throughout the course
- On-site local orthopedic surgeons to provide fans with joint health assessments and additional education
- Meet and greet opportunities with Champions Tour golfers, Fred Funk and Hal Sutton (at select events only)
As an additional element of this year’s program, Stryker will be hosting the Stryker Health Walk at various Champions Tour events. In an effort to further educate tournament-goers, health facts and tips will be located in key areas along the course. The pedometers distributed at the Stryker Mobility Zone complement the Stryker Health Walk as a component that allows fans to track their steps around the course throughout the day.
“Last year, we enjoyed a great response from golf fans around the country who were really interested in learning more about their joint pain and treatment options. We’re excited to continue the momentum and bring the Stryker Mobility Zone to both PGA TOUR and Champions Tour events in 2015,” says Bill Huffnagle, President, Reconstructive Division, Stryker. “Fred Funk and Hal Sutton have been wonderful ambassadors over the past few years, and the on-site activation was the perfect addition to spread our message while engaging with fans.”
Champions Tour golfers Fred Funk and Hal Sutton, both brand ambassadors for Stryker and beneficiaries of Stryker products, will continue to promote total joint replacement while on tour, interacting with fans at the Stryker Mobility Zone and sharing stories of their personal journeys.
“The relationship between Stryker and the PGA TOUR this past year proved to be beneficial in many ways,” says Funk. “It gave me and Hal the chance to tell our fans face-to-face how Stryker’s products helped us. We welcome the opportunity to spread the word about joint replacement.”
Funk, a Stryker brand ambassador since 2011, is one of the most recognizable names and personalities in professional golf. During his career, which spans more than 20 years, Funk has won eight titles on the PGA TOUR, including THE PLAYERS Championship 2005, and nine titles on the Champions Tour, including three Major Championships (two JELD-WEN Tradition titles and the 2009 U.S. Senior Open), since turning 50 in 2006. Funk underwent total knee replacement in November 2009 and received Stryker’s GetAroundKnee®. He won the Regions Tradition the following season, becoming the first player ever to win a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event after total knee replacement surgery.
Sutton, whose 14 PGA TOUR victories include the 1983 PGA Championship and THE PLAYERS Championship in 1983 and 2000, has been a Stryker brand ambassador since 2013. In 2012, at age 54, after speaking with his doctor and learning about the differences in hip replacements, Sutton made the decision to undergo a total hip replacement of his left hip and received Stryker’s Mobile Bearing Hip. One year later, he received a matching Stryker Mobile Bearing Hip on the right side.
