Study Demonstrates Effectiveness of InvisiShunt Implants

BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Longeviti Neuro Solutions, a company advancing neurosurgery through the development of low-profile intracranial devices to address the functional and reconstructive needs of patients with neurological conditions, announced today the results of a study demonstrating that the InvisiShunt implant shows promising outcomes with a low complication rate for patients. The results of the study, which were published in The Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the InvisiShunt implant, and whether it could minimize complications.

The trial, which included 25 patients across four institutions fitted with the InvisiShunt implant, reported no major scalp or shunt-related complication for 92 percent of participants after an average follow-up period of 13 months.

Patients with neurological conditions, such as hydrocephalus who require brain surgery often undergo multiple procedures and face long recoveries, as well as experience cranial contour abnormalities. A challenge with current technologies that are surgically inserted is that the devices vary in shape and size, and where they are implanted, which can change the contour of the cranium.

“Until now, patients requiring shunts received implants placed above the skull and below the skin, which can cause pain and discomfort, and lead to other complications,” said Erol Veznedaroglu, MD, study author, director of neurosciences, Global Neurosciences Institute. “This study demonstrates that, in addition to its reconstructive benefits, the InvisiShunt is safe and effective in treating patients. The InvisiShunt should be considered as an option for patients.”

According to The Hydrocephalus Association,1 more than one million adults each year suffer from hydrocephalus, a buildup of fluid in the brain that currently only surgery can correct.

“There is an unmet need to evolve the way patients with hydrocephalus and other neurological conditions are treated,” said Jesse Christopher, CEO, Longeviti. “It is rewarding to have developed an implant that offers patients the ability to return to anatomical normalcy. Now, there are additional clinical results that substantiate its value, and underscores the opportunity that lies ahead to advance the field of neurosurgery.”

The InvisiShunt is a neurosurgical implant that is placed in the cranium to restore the skull’s natural contour in patients undergoing complex brain surgeries. InvisiShunt is a single-use, sterile implant manufactured in various shapes and sizes for different areas of the craniofacial skeleton. Surgeons make one incision and place the device into the cranium restoring the natural contour of the cranium.
