January 8, 2010 Bar Harbor, Maine -- The Jackson Laboratory has received a $1 million grant from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, an East Coast greenhouse cap-and-trade program, to help pay for an energy-efficient heating conversion. As reported in the Bangor Daily News, the Laboratory plans to replace its oil-burning heating system with biomass burners, a $4.4 million project.
The Jackson Laboratory, a nonprofit biomedical research institution and one of Maine's largest employers, has received the Northeast Efficiency Partnership Award and is recognized as a regional energy conservation leader.
