Solazyme, Inc. Announces New Senior Director, Biofuel Development

MENLO PARK, Calif., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Solazyme, a leading algal biotechnology company, today announced that it has named Dr. Donald E. Trimbur to the position of Senior Director, Biofuel Development.

Dr. Trimbur is a metabolic engineer and microbiologist with more than twenty years in academic and industrial biotechnology research and development. He is an inventor on numerous patents and patent applications in the fields of industrial biotechnology and metabolic engineering. He was most recently Head of the Protein Science research group of Genencor International, Inc. (www.genencor.com ), where he spent thirteen years. While at Genencor, Dr. Trimbur also held a number of other positions, including Leader of Pathway Design in the Metabolic Pathway Group and Head of Functional Genomics. During this period he led industrial biotechnology projects in a number of business areas, including his work on the ground-breaking metabolic engineering project for highly efficient bioproduction of 1, 3- propanediol with Genencor's partner Dupont. Dr Trimbur was a member of the first editorial board of the influential journal Metabolic Engineering.

Dr. Trimbur received his Ph.D. in microbiology from Cornell University. He then performed postdoctoral fellowships at both the University of British Columbia, where he worked with Dr. Stephen Withers on enzyme mechanisms of beta-glucosidases, and at Pennsylvania State University in the lab of Dr. Jean Benchley, where he studied psychophilic enzymes.
