Sigma Pharmaceuticals Seeks Help to End Walkout

Sigma Pharmaceuticals has called on Fair Work Australia to help end a strike by workers that has affected the supply of some products to chemists. About 130 of the 150 workers employed at Sigma’s warehouse at Rowville, in Melbourne’s south east, walked off the job in late February in a dispute about shift loadings. While the supply of life-saving drugs to chemists has not been affected by the strike, the distribution of products ranging from baby food to headache tables has been affected. Sigma on Tuesday said it had been told by the National Union of Workers (NUW) the workers intended to remain on strike.
