SF-Based Genetic Testing Firm Invitae Files for $86 Million IPO

Invitae Corp., a San Francisco-based genetic testing firm created by Genomic Health founder Randy Scott, wants to raise as much as $86.25 million in an initial public offering, the company said Friday.

Filing on the eve of next week’s big J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco, Invitae’s offering is the latest in an 18-month string of Bay Area life sciences IPOs. The latest include Redwood City medical device maker Avinger Inc. and Palo Alto pain drug developer Carbylan Therapeutics Inc.
