The Glasgow-based group, which recently announced a major expansion into Asia, is hiring five PhD level formulation scientists including Dr. Fiona McInnes, a qualified pharmacist who was previously a lecturer at the University of Strathclyde, as Development Director.
Bio Images Group, which is based in the medical block of Glasgow Royal Infirmary, employs a staff of world class scientists with extensive experience in drug formulation. It has an established customer base within the global pharmaceutical industry in North America, Europe and Japan.
One of its trading arms, Bio Images Research, is acknowledged within its sector as a leading player in the field of gamma scintigraphy imaging, which it describes as ‘allowing non-invasive visualisation of drug formulations and body systems’.
Another group business, Drug Delivery International, (DDI), provides formulation services and develops technologies for licensing to pharmaceutical or generic companies. It recently completed a license agreement in respect of three University of Strathclyde patents in the area of controlled drug release which have been demonstrated clinically in the therapeutic areas of cardiovascular disease, pain management and sleep.
Dr Carol Thomson, Chief Operating Officer of DDI said: “The controlled release formulations offer tremendous advantage over existing technologies and we are excited about further developing these and expanding their use to other therapeutic areas.”
Ian Stillie, a Director of Bio Images Group, said: “We are steadily building the Group’s sales with major contracts from US and Asian pharmaceutical companies as a result of our developing reputation for high quality and innovative research. On current trends we will double our turnover this year.
“These new appointments of outstanding and talented formulation scientists represent our response to this global demand and we continue to press ahead with our plans to establish a wholly-owned commercial presence in Singapore in Quarter three of this year.”
