Rise in Procedures may be Traced to Medical Device Industry

Boston Globe -- THE OP-ED by Ray Elliott (“Spurring innovation through repeal of the medical device tax,’’ April 2) goes through the familiar big-business list of doomsday scenarios that we would suffer because of a tax: Jobs will be lost, innovation will decline, countries such as Brazil, India, and China will out-compete us, and so on. What Elliott, president and CEO of Boston Scientific, fails to mention is the tax that his industry is levying on us, through hundreds of thousands of unnecessary procedures and surgeries performed every year.
