Popular Pain Med Lyrica Linked To Major Birth Defects, Lausanne University Hospital Study

A drug commonly prescribed for pain and anxiety may be linked to major birth defects, new research suggests.

Published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, the prospective cohort study reviewed pregnancy outcomes following maternal use of pregabalin, a drug used to treat nerve and muscle pain. It’s commonly prescribed to patients with epilepsy, fibromyalgia and generalized anxiety disorder.
