The partnership will develop and publish Directions in Oncology PharmacyTM
CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Pharmacy Times®, the leading multimedia resource for pharmacists, recently welcomed the Community Oncology Pharmacy Association (COPA) to its Strategic Alliance Partnership (SAP) program to publish Directions in Oncology PharmacyTM. This publication is an extension of the Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ series Directions in Oncology Pharmacy® and Pharmacy Times® Health-System Edition and Specialty Pharmacy Times® digital and print platforms.
“We are excited to be working with COPA to educate the pharmacist community about best practices in cancer care,” said John Hydrusko, vice president of Pharmacy and Healthcare Communications. “Our goal is to provide expert-driven, elevated content and resources to directors of pharmacy and oncology, specialty and clinical pharmacists to enhance their expertise and improve patient outcomes.”
COPA was formed in response to the increasing number of cancer clinics dispensing oral cancer drugs and ancillary therapies. A nonprofit entity operating under the direction of the Community Oncology Alliance, COPA establishes standards and provides information, education and resources that help advocate for patient-centric model of high-quality care. As a nonprofit focused on enhancing patient care, COPA is in the unique position of serving as a noncommercial organization dedicated to addressing a variety of pharmacy issues, all in the sole interest of patient care.
“Physician in-office dispensing or pharmacies for patients with cancer are an integral part of modern, patient-centered, coordinated, safer, and high-quality cancer care. COPA’s mission is to ensure a strong and effective community oncology pharmacy system for all patients by networking practices and providing them with valuable resources to succeed,” said Ricky Newton, director of financial services & operations at the Community Oncology Alliance. “We are pleased to be partnering with Pharmacy Times® to provide educational content geared towards the issues specifically faced by community oncology pharmacies.”
The SAP program builds a community of advocacy groups, medical associations and medical institutions to foster collaboration and an open exchange of information among trusted peers for the ultimate benefit of patients and their families. As part of this joint effort, Pharmacy Times® will work with COPA to develop and publish Directions in Oncology PharmacyTM, which focuses on oncology drugs and treatment. The first issue will be released August 2019.

About the Community Oncology Alliance
The majority of Americans battling cancer receive treatment in the community oncology setting. Keeping patients close to their homes, families, and support networks lessens the impact of this devastating disease. Community oncology practices do this while delivering high-quality, cutting-edge cancer care at a fraction of the cost of the hospital setting. The Community Oncology Alliance (COA) advocates for community oncology and smart public policy that ensures the community cancer care system remains healthy and able to provide all Americans with access to local, quality, affordable cancer care.
