Pfizer Inc. Tells 900 U.K. Staff of Redundancy Risk at Kent Plant, Issues Layoffs at Newbridge Factory

Pfizer has told 900 staff at its Kent plant that they are "at risk" of redundancy as the American drug giant prepares to pull out of the research and development site.

Last Tuesday, the pharmaceutical company ended its first 90-day staff consultation following an announcement in February that it was closing its site in Sandwich, which employs 2,400 people. At the same time, Pfizer is reviewing layoffs at the Newbridge in Co Kildare site, which it acquired in the purchase of Wyeth two years ago.
