American Cancer Society resources available through its partnership with Perrigo provide consumers with an effective roadmap to living tobacco-free.
Dublin, Ireland – November 2, 2017 – Perrigo Company (NYSE; TASE: PRGO) today announced a $300,000 contribution to the American Cancer Society as part of an exclusive partnership focused on tobacco-free living. Perrigo, as the leader in store brand and retailer ‘own label’ brand nicotine replacement gums and lozenges, will provide the exclusive use of the American Cancer Society brand to its retail and wholesale partners, who together with Perrigo, will work to promote the range of resources available through the American Cancer Society to help smokers successfully quit.
Tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the United States. Each year, more than 480,000 people in the United States die from illnesses related to tobacco use.1 Despite these facts, approximately 40 million American adults still smoke tobacco, as it is one of the strongest addictions a person can have.2
Evidence shows that successfully quitting tobacco use is a process. It starts with a plan, often takes time, and requires a lot of support. The partnership with the American Cancer Society provides Perrigo and its retail customers with a unique opportunity to support consumers’ desire to quit.
Perrigo Executive Vice President and President, Consumer Healthcare Americas Jeff Needham commented that, “For 130 years, Perrigo has been a trusted supplier of Quality Affordable Healthcare Products® marketed as store brands or retailers’ ‘own label’ brands and remains committed to improving the lives of consumers, patients and families around the world. During this partnership with the American Cancer Society we hope everyone will join us – and encourage their friends, family and colleagues to join us – in committing or recommitting to tobacco-free living.”
American Cancer Society resources available through its partnership with Perrigo provide consumers with an effective roadmap to living tobacco-free. “The most important goal for any smoker should be to quit, and we can help you succeed,” says Cliff Douglas, Vice President for Tobacco Control at the American Cancer Society. “This partnership allows us to expand our reach and deliver important, lifesaving messages about quitting smoking through pharmacies across the nation.”
The American Cancer Society is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support as people make their plan to quit. Perrigo encourages consumers interested in quitting to learn more about the benefits of store brand nicotine replacement products, which provide a high-quality, value alternative to national brand nicotine replacement products.
