MedPageToday -- The rate of ambulatory community-acquired pneumonia among children has not changed despite the introduction of the conjugated pneumococcal vaccine in 2000, researchers reported. The finding, from two national surveys of outpatient visits, contrasts with earlier studies that found inpatient care for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) has fallen significantly since the vaccine was introduced, according to Matthew Kronman, MD, of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and colleagues.
