Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, April 27th 2012: Ocimum Biosolutions announced an expansion of the BioIT business in Malaysia through a joint venture with a Malaysian company. The new venture, known as Ocimum Biotech Asia sdn. bhd., started operations in April 2012.
Malaysia is seen as a gateway for Ocimum products and services to address the ASEAN markets. Over the past two years, Ocimum, with its highly skilled expertise, has completed many projects in Malaysia. The market dynamics have convinced Ocimum to invest and make their presence in the Malaysian market.
Ms. Anu Acharya, CEO, Ocimum Biosolutions, said, “The markets in ASEAN countries are at the early stages of technology adoption in healthcare, genomics, agribiotech and diagnostics. Ocimum brings in the best global practices in the niche field of Genomics and BioIT to Malaysia.”
The early focus of the company would be to create human resource infrastructure and to launch the existing BioIT products and services with the primary focus being developing the skills sets and advanced technologies across ASEAN market. The products portfolio includes Bioinformatics product suite, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Next Gen Sequencing services. Effective Shield sdn. bhd. is Ocimum’s distributor in Malaysia.
