Novartis Korea Wins Korea PR Award

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA--(Marketwire - November 10, 2009) - Novartis Korea (President: Peter Jager) announced it was honored as recipient of the Excellence Award in the category of public affairs of 2009 Korea PR Award for its contribution to enhancing organ donation. The awarding ceremony took place on Thursday at Grand Ballroom of Seoul Plaza Hotel.

Novartis Korea has launched a series of promotional activities to raise awareness for organ donation as part of its ‘Save Lives Campaign,’ which include the support for the world’s first Himalayan climbing by a group of organ donors and recipients in December of last year, followed by this year’s tree plantation, photo exhibition, and other eye-catching programs to help encourage many to join an organ donation movement across the nation.

The multinational pharmaceutical company took the initiative aimed at helping organ donors and recipients to live with pride, eliminating a social bias against organ transplant and eventually amending the law to fit the current environment, an effort that is needed for a full year.

“Influenced by our ‘Save Lives Campaign’ and the donation of corneas by the late Cardinal Stephen Kim Soo-hwan, the number of donor candidates has doubled to 159,183 as of September from 74,841 a year ago,” said Peter Jager, President of Novartis Korea. “Novartis Korea will continue a variety of programs to help the organ donation culture to take root.”

Korea PR Award is the nation’s biggest PR-related prize given every year by the Korea Public Relations Association to improve quality of promotional activities in each category. The award given to Novartis Korea is to highlight activities in the promotion of public good, recognizing the company’s ‘Save Lives Campaign’ has made a great contribution to improving the organ donation awareness in Korea.
