Nicotine Patch May Soothe Schizophrenic Smokers, University of Colorado Study

MedPage Today -- SAN FRANCISCO, May 18 -- Nicotine replacement patches may substantially reduce agitation among hospitalized schizophrenia patients who smoke, researchers found. Agitation scores dropped significantly within four hours and remained lower through 24 hours among patients randomized to the patch, compared with placebo, Michael H. Allen, M.D., of the University of Colorado at Denver, and colleagues found.
